Each week, Tommy Lei of @mybelonging takes us through a different room in his home.

A place where we can rest, relax, and rejuvenate. The design arc of my primary bedroom can be succinctly described in one word: multifunctional.

I wanted a room where I can truly be at ease—for leisure and lounging. There’s a reading nook to the side, with a Lina Swivel Chair from Design Within Reach, so that I can have some time to unwind right before bed.

Aesthetically, I wanted to keep it streamlined with influences from Japan, and mid-century modern touches throughout. There’s a lot of natural materials—for instance, a CB2 teak bed frame, a Castlery lacquered console, and a vintage bamboo screen divider to give the space more depth.

At night, I love to diffuse vitruvi’s Nightcap—there’s almost a sedative quality to the scent due to its potency, so a little goes a long way. It’s also a quiet reminder to disengage from day-to-day stressors and enter into a gentle slumber.
