The following recipe is excerpted from “Essential Well Being” by Sara Panton and reprinted with permission from the publisher.

The components of this face mask were chosen for both their aromas and their benefits to the skin. Coconut oil has natural antimicrobial properties and helps soothe and moisturize the skin, while coffee is super stimulating to the skin. If coffee wasn’t already one of your favourite things in the world, it is now. Not only does it increase circulation and blood flow to the dermis, but it also exfoliates the skin in a gentle way and adds a smooth finish. Honey is great for nourishing and balancing the complexion, as well as for helping your skin absorb and retain moisture. Whenever I use this mask, it helps keep my skin soft, dewy, and glowing. Honey also has natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, which makes it a great option for when an unexpected blemish pops up.

The takeaway for this recipe is that it’s a simple way to sneak a spa moment into your boring morning shower routine. The best part? There’s zero mess involved because it all takes place in the shower.

COCONUT COFFEE ORANGE HONEY FACE MASK

2 tablespoons organic solid virgin coconut oil

2 teaspoons organic liquid honey

6 drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil

4 tablespoons organic coffee grounds

Method

  1. Add the coconut oil, honey, and Sweet Orange Essential Oil to a small bowl or glass jar.
  2. Mix the coffee grounds into the oil and honey mixture until combined.

Application

  1. Moisten the face with warm shower water to help open the pores and soften the skin.
  2. Put 2 to 3 teaspoons of the face mask mixture on your fingertips and massage it onto your face in small, circular, upward motions, avoiding the eyes.
  3. Leave the mask on your face while you finish your morning shower routine—shampooing, conditioning, washing your body. Allow the mask to sit for at least 5 minutes before rinsing it off with warm shower water.

Storage

Keep the face mask in a covered bowl or jar with a lid in the shower for up to 1 week. Try to prevent water from getting into the bowl or jar to ensure that it lasts the full week. You can also keep it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
