Scent Style: Art Director, Designer, and Marketer Lucy Yun

Words by Sara Harowitz

Lucy Yun wears many hats. We mean that both literally (she has an incredible sense of style, including some show-stopping headpieces) and figuratively (she is a graphic designer, art director, social media expert, marketer, photographer… we could go on). She is also warm, charismatic, full of life, and downright cool (can you tell we’re fans?). Here’s how she scents her Vancouver home.

Scent is so personal. What does it mean to you?

With my five senses, I can immediately identify if I love something or not. Scent is immediate and intimate. If I am attracted to a particular scent, I open up and let it envelop me. Likewise, if I don’t like the scent, it’s a hard no!

Describe your personality in three to five words.

Entrepreneurial, creative, fun, adventurous, and emotional.

With those words in mind, tell us about the diffuser blend that you’ve created to represent your scent style.

As a business owner specializing in art direction, design, and marketing, I spend a lot of time on my computer. Unfortunately, I suffer from allergies, which often disturb my workflow. Imagine running to the washroom every five minutes to sneeze and wheeze, or excusing yourself from an important meeting with a client. So inefficient and unprofessional, right? Which is why I jumped at the ultra-herbaceous Eucalyptus, and then rounded my scent off with a touch of Breathe and Ylang Ylang.

Why did you choose each of these oils and how do they work together? What does the final aroma smell like or remind you of?

I chose the Eucalyptus for its sinus-relieving properties. I chose the Ylang Ylang because of the name and because it smells nice on its own. When I added my favorite vitruvi blend, Breathe, the scent softened and sweetened to give off an almost candy-store aroma. It reminds me of a particular candy store that I used to love as a child.

What room do you diffuse this scent in and when do you diffuse it?

I have my diffuser set up at my workstation. It provides relief from my allergies, relaxes me when I feel stressed, and makes my small apartment smell alive.

Aside from scent, what else makes you feel truly at home in your space?

The natural light and the quiet allow me to truly relax and feel in place.

What’s your favorite thing about your home?

My view.
